Effective verbatim recording hinges entirely on the clarity of spoken words, whether in person during depositions or remotely. Have you ever found yourself straining to decipher muffled voices in court or deposition settings, diverting your attention from capturing accurate testimony or questions? Since 2020, many of us have navigated the challenge of poor audio quality on virtual platforms like Zoom while transcribing proceedings.
At this year’s Steno in the City – Steno Tech Workshop, we are excited to introduce The Sound Professionals, Kristina Ianieri and Chris Carfagno. They will provide invaluable insights into achieving pristine audio clarity. Discover a range of microphone and audio interface options—from USB microphones to wired and wireless setups. Explore essential backup recording techniques and learn the advantages of single-channel versus multi-channel audio recording.
Kristina and Chris will also share their top headphone recommendations and essential accessories for court reporters. Gain practical tips and tricks to ensure the highest possible audio quality, enabling you to focus effortlessly on the proceedings without distractions.

Michael Starkman, eVerbatim, Inc. – .15 CEUs/ 1.5 CE Hours
It’s time to purchase a new computer for court reporting. OH, NO — it’s time to purchase a new computer for court reporting! When it’s that time, does your mind race with a laundry list of questions? Questions such as: What is considered a good computer? What is the audio quality? How much RAM do I need, and what in the world is RAM? What CAT software files do I need to bring over and where do I put them? Am I going to have the same problems with this new computer as I did with my last one, and so on and so on. Michael will answer all of these questions and more when he discusses a very popular service, used by thousands of court reporters, called Concierge Setup Service.
Next up on the list is cloud storage and backup. This part of the seminar will address the big “what if” question. What if something happens to your computer? Is your critical data backed up securely and redundantly? Will it be easy to access and restore files?
